Your Questions, Answered!

Having a good skincare routine for your dog will help to keep their skin healthy, maintaining the skin’s elasticity and resilience. Moisturising your dog’s skin can be positive for their overall health and comfort. If your dog has healthy skin, there should be no need to regularly moisturise your dog’s entire skin. However, there are many areas which become dry and damaged due to exposure, excessive skin folds, trauma and underlying diseases such as allergies which will benefit from moisturising as part of a regular skincare routine.

If your dog licks or ingests a small amount, there is generally no need to worry. The product has been designed with cosmetic-grade ingredients that can be used for dogs and does not include any ingredients that may be toxic to dogs. However, if your dog consumes a large quantity, we recommend monitoring them closely and contacting your vet for advice if you have any concerns.

In terms of active ingredients, colloidal oatmeal has soothing properties that can soothe irritation and hydrate skin. Green tea extract is a natural source of Vitamin E and B3. Vitamin E has soothing and moisturising properties while Vitamin B3 can reduce redness and help strengthen the skin’s barrier. Cocoa butter also helps nourish and deeply hydrate the skin.

The best way to care for a dog’s skin folds is by cleaning them daily with water, a gentle shampoo, or a wipe designed for their skin. Ensure the folds dry thoroughly using a soft, clean cloth to dry excess water. Use a cream like the Pet Head Oatmeal Soothing Cream after cleaning to keep the folds moisturised and protected. Check the skin regularly, paying close attention the skin deep within any folds and speak with your veterinarian if you notice redness, irritation, inflammation or discolouration of the skin.

No, veterinarians generally don’t recommend using pure or neat coconut oil for dogs. You should always use something that has been formulated for the intended application. If you are concerned, seek advice.
